With the help of many generous donations Vessels of Vallejo was able to place  "Justice for Sean Monterrosa" billboards at intersection of Maine and Colusa, approximately 200 feet from the Vallejo Police Department Headquarters, and at the intersection of Sonoma and Capitol in downtown Vallejo.  We will continue to run ads in Vallejo; help us keep justice messages going.

All donations toward our goal will be used in renting billboard space and paying printing fees through March 2021.

Sean Monterrosa’s murder and the California Attorney General’s investigation into VPD’s destruction of evidence in the case has led to renewed attention to policing in Vallejo where VPD has killed 37 civilians since 1997, and 14 current officers are locally known as the “Fatal 14” because they have been involved in three or more shootings each since 2010.  The non-profit newsroom Open Vallejo has also revealed that a secret society within the department has celebrated fatal shootings with backyard barbecues and by bending the points on shooters’ badges as marks of distinction. City officials participated in keeping this practice secret. Further, the San Francisco Chronicle has recently reported that many non-fatal encounters with VPD often result in brutality, trauma and litigation. Vallejo’s high cost of civil rights case settlements will cost the cash strapped city millions of dollars which could otherwise be spent on education, infrastructure, and social services. As cities across the Bay Area and the nation divest in policing and invested in mental health, emergency shelters, education, jobs programs, and infrastructure, Vallejo urgently needs follow suit. Help us call for justice and accountability in Vallejo.
